Response to Statement of St Michaels Diocesan Trust

The Ely Centre welcomes the recent statement by Monsignor Joseph McGuinness from St Michaels Diocesan Trust.  We require clarification on a number of issues highlighted within the statement, which we will seek to discuss in private with the Trust.

In particular we welcome the positive tone of the statement in acknowledging the importance of memorials in remembrance, equally their position on the memorial text and the poppy is welcomed and expected.

We look forward to further negotiations with the Trust, which we are anxious to continue immediately. At this time we are awaiting contact from the Diocesan Trust to arrange dates and times for such meetings to commence.

The desire of the families to have a permanent memorial on the bombsite remains paramount within this process so that their suffering is acknowledged, the truth is told and their loved ones respectfully remembered.
